BAXTER

ago grandaddy Baxter gave dad 40 acres
Daddy proudly named it Hill
Him and Mom seven kids
And us each 1 acre
In someday that's where we all would build
Daddy's dream in life was Baxter Hill

The rest all moved but
I stayed on mom and daddy
But all gathered in when Mama died
They were quick decidin'papa couldn't handle
And the six of all said let's subdivide
You could see them dollar bill in their eyes

I

Yeah, They subdivided 40 acres
The place him and mama worked and saved
Not out of need, just out of
They them six room houses
Bet mama's turnin' in her grave
Just knowin' they've done papa

Well, they agreed that I keep
The papa gave me
So I left that old standin'where it was
And just a few days
Them big old yellow
Started pushing up the my daddy loved
Tearin' up everything that dreamed of

Now didn't say much
He just sat on the front porch
And watched them big bulldozers his fields
look straight ahead
And say I know mama's dead
But be comin' back to Baxter Hill
And rattle chains in every room they build

. .

Yeah, they subdidvided 40 acres
But the houses stand empty, cold and still
sold a few, but the people moved
And swore they'd never come
Papa just grins and says they never
your Mama walks on Baxter Hill

Yeah, Mama walks at night on Baxter
